An island with a natural habitat for turtles, a breeding ground and a huge sea grass bed which is a source of food for turtles. The favorable conditions of Maafaru reef system makes the island become one of the few islands to spot turtles. Maafaru is known as “turtle Island” due to the abundance of turtles around the island. In fact, the population of turtles has increased over the years due to decade’s old ban on turtles hunting in the Maldives.
